Hohenwerfen castle

The 900 year old Hohenwerfen castle offers numerous attractions to the visitor: for example guided castle tours and weapon exhibition several times a day, Salzburg's falcon show with daily flight demonstration and a bird of prey - educational trail.

In July and August there are specific evening programmes and special falconry programmes.

 

Giant ice world Werfen

You can easily combine the giant ice world with the castle Hohenwerfen (full day excursion).

A gondola will take you to the entrance of the world's biggest natural ice cave. Its mighty ice figures that aglitter with different lights at are truly enchanting. The guided tour through the cave is about 75 minutes.
Don't forget to bring solid shoes and warm clothes!

 

Forest-adventure lido St. Johann

The Forest lido in St. Johann im Pongau has a sports pool and a kid's pool as well as a children's area with a flat pool and is popular amongst families and young groups.

Grossglockner - high alpine road

The famous alpine road will take you to Austria's highest mountain, the Grossglockner (3,789 m) and its glacier, the Pasterze. You will drive through several climatic zones here and there even metres high walls of snow.

Not only is the well known and worth seeing Liechtensteinklamm one of the most beautiful but also one of the deepest and longest (800m) wild water gorges in the Alps.
Safely accessible bridges, stairs and tunnels lead towards the 50 m waterfall at the end of the gorge. You can reach the Liechtensteinklamm via the Alpendorf panoramic - route in 1 hour on foot.

On the high mountain reservoirs Moserboden on 2040 m you can experience how hydropower is turned into electricity. On a guided tour you will see the "Inner life of the dam wall" and can take a glance at the big turbines.
In the museum "World of experience: Electricity and Ice" you will learn what a barrier needs to be able to do and how it is being monitored.
